The transition to clean energy involves changing how we produce and consume energy to move away from fossil fuels. The goal is to adopt renewable energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Renewable energies, such as solar and wind power, need to be transformed into electricity to be used, and this requires power generation equipment, transmission lines, motors, and batteries of all kinds. One of the main components of this equipment is copper.
Some characteristics of this mineral are its malleability, corrosion resistance, and durability, which make copper an ideal element for manufacturing electrical cables, electronic components, and transportation systems. Furthermore, it is one of the few materials that can be recycled indefinitely without losing its properties, making it a renewable and sustainable resource.
Therefore, it is the “star” mineral of the energy transition: to reduce the environmental impact of energy production and use, more copper is needed. And its enormous development potential lies, specifically, in Andean provinces like Mendoza.
