Northern Mendoza Mining District (NMMD)
Northern Mendoza Mining District
An initiative to organize, plan and enhance mining development in the northern part of the province.
Purpose
To organize and enhance mining development in the northern part of the province through territorial planning, the generation of basic environmental information, and coordination with the holders of mining rights in the area.
Main actions
- Accurate mapping of existing mining rights and identification of conflict zones.
- Preparation of comprehensive environmental studies of the area.
- Replication of the model applied in the Malargüe Western Mining District (WMMD).
Expected impact
- Territorial planning of 3,914 km² with 140 surveyed mining properties.
- Taking advantage of the geological potential of the area, with characteristics similar to large Andean deposits.
Western Malargüe Mining District (WMMD)
A comprehensive development to transform the southern part of the province into a modern and sustainable mining hub.
Purpose
Develop a mining district in the department of Malargüe that integrates infrastructure, exploration, investment, employment and international standards.
Main actions
- Delineation of exploration areas on a surface of almost 20,000 km².
- Preparation and publication of sector reports and IIAs for multiple projects (more than 65 areas).
- Creation of a georeferenced map to learn the details of each project.
Expected impact
- Diversification of the provincial production matrix.
- Job creation in exploration and, eventually, production.
El Seguro
Responsible mining exploration in a strategic area of high potential.
Purpose
Develop the El Seguro copper project to strengthen modernized mining exploration, with a focus on environmental sustainability and the generation of productive value.
Main actions
- Construction of the road access to the project area.
- Technical and environmental inspections to verify compliance with regulations.
- Progress in geological studies and preparation of basic infrastructure for future stages.
Expected impact
- Boost copper exploration, a key mineral for the energy transition and industrial sectors.
- Job creation and boosting the local economy in Malargüe.
- Development of a mining project with criteria of transparency and environmental control.
Productive paths
Strategic road connectivity for the development of the southern province.
Purpose
Improve and expand the road infrastructure of Malargüe and surrounding productive areas, facilitating safe and efficient access to mining, tourism and logistics corridors.

- Opening of paths.
- Paving and consolidation of strategic routes..
- Road safety works and structural maintenance.
Expected impact
- Reduction of logistics times and transport costs.
- Greater accessibility for mining and energy investments.
- Boosting tourism development in the southern part of the province.
- Territorial integration that strengthens the regional economy.
Potasio Río Colorado
Reactivation of a strategic resource for Mendoza’s export matrix.
Purpose
To develop the potassium deposit for economic exploitation under global standards of efficiency, environment and transparency.
Main actions
- Attracting investors to launch the project.
- Updating technical and environmental studies.
- Creating the necessary infrastructure for operation.
Expected impact
- Generation of direct and indirect employment.
- Increased exports and productive diversification.
- Development of local technical and technological capabilities.
Hierro Indio
Recovery of a historic project with potential for the steel industry.
Purpose
Develop the Hierro Indio deposit to produce iron, boost employment and strengthen the national industry.
Main actions
- Reactivation of the project and advanced exploration.
- Development of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
- Work coordinated with environmental oversight and citizen participation..
Expected impact
- Local iron production and import substitution.
- Employment and development in Malargüe.
- Contribution to Mendoza’s productive profile.
