Kobrea Launches First Copper Drilling Campaign in the Malargüe Western Mining District

The El Perdido project has become the first initiative within the Malargüe Western Mining District — a platform developed by Impulsa Mendoza to promote responsible exploration in the south of the province — to begin drilling activities. The milestone marks a new stage for copper development and reinforces a model based on technical planning, international investment and local talent.

The El Perdido project, developed by Kobrea Exploraciones Argentina, has become the first project within the Malargüe Western Mining District to initiate drilling activities, marking a milestone for metalliferous exploration in Mendoza and the beginning of a new phase for the province’s mining industry.

The start of this operational phase is the result of more than a year of technical, administrative and territorial work. The project underwent multiple stages of environmental, water, heritage, cultural and social evaluation and approval, in addition to obtaining the corresponding authorizations from the Municipality of Malargüe and Mendoza’s Mining Authority.

Company representatives highlighted that the beginning of drilling activities represents not only a technical advance, but also a turning point for mining in the province. Kobrea is the first foreign-capital company in several years to launch this type of work in Mendoza, opening a new cycle of investment, geological information generation and productive development.

Kobrea Exploraciones Argentina is a corporation wholly owned by Kobrea Exploraciones Corp., a Canadian mining company. The firm selected Mendoza as its first investment destination in Argentina and concentrates all of its projects in the department of Malargüe, where it identified strong geological potential for copper system development.

To access the drilling site, the company built an approximately 15-kilometer road, with the corresponding authorizations from both the landowner and the provincial mining authority. Although the geographic and climatic conditions of the area created logistical challenges that delayed the initial schedule, the equipment is now fully installed and drilling activities have formally begun.

The Potential of the Malargüe Western Mining District

At the same time, Kobrea continues advancing technical and environmental studies in other projects in Malargüe, including El Destino, as well as additional exploration areas where the company holds mining rights. According to the company, it has the logistical capacity, human resources and financial backing necessary to develop multiple projects simultaneously, always subject to the authorizations granted by regulatory agencies.

The launch of this drilling campaign further strengthens the positioning of the Malargüe Western Mining District as a strategic platform for the exploration of critical minerals such as copper and consolidates Mendoza as an attractive destination for investments that combine economic development, high technical standards and sustainability criteria.

Technical Background

As part of the previous exploration stages, Kobrea completed its first geophysical campaign at the El Perdido property in June of this year. This phase was carried out by the Mendoza-based company Geoenergía, which operated using state-of-the-art technology, specialized personnel and entirely local logistics.

The campaign stood out for the quality of the data obtained and for an efficient aerial operation that successfully achieved technical objectives under demanding geographic conditions. The work was supported by the Los Molles airstrip, authorized as a Declared Suitable Site by Argentina’s National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), which is consolidating itself as strategic infrastructure for mining, healthcare, tourism and logistics activities in the south of the province.

This geophysical stage was key in defining the priority sectors that are now being evaluated through drilling, reinforcing an exploration approach based on planning, high-quality technical information and the use of local talent.
