Boosting financing
for the mining sector
Mendoza has the potential to become a financial hub for mining.
This section provides access to essential information on market dynamics, financing strategies and transparent investment benefits for mining development.
A financial hub is a dynamic ecosystem where players in the financial system -banks, insurers, funds, fintechs, regulators, professionals and consultants- gather to facilitate complex financial operations, innovation and investment attraction.
Thanks to the large amount of money invested, these hubs promote networking spaces such as forums, conferences, trainings and roadshows (such as PDAC, IMAC, AME Roundup, VRIC, Exponor, GES, etc.).
They also promote the creation of investment agencies specialized in the sector. They are responsible for communicating the existing incentives for companies to disembark, which subsequently need financing.
Currently, the Province is working with the National University of Cuyo (UNCuyo) to create a roadmap that will turn Mendoza into a mining finance hub that benefits the entire region, taking benefit of comparative advantages (such as institutionality, quality of life, cultural offer, logistics, tourism, connectivity, among others) and competitive advantages (professionals, universities, colleges) that make Mendoza ideal for a financial hub for mining.
There are aspects of our province that already facilitate transforming Mendoza into a financing hub for mining, such as institutionality, political and tax stability, the new Mining Procedure, the Plan Pilares, the Malargüe Distrito Minero Occidental, the role of Impulsa Mendoza and a political leadership that promotes mining as a state policy.
Now, Mendoza will have to continue promoting the attraction of local and international investments towards the mining sector by carrying out actions such as:
1. Continue attending international events, forums and conferences, and more importantly, replicating these networking formats in the local setting.
2. Develop investment vehicles that allow local and global investors to take their first steps in the sector, appealing for them to settle in Mendoza.
3. Promote financial education. To this end, the participation of financial actors could be invoked to educate companies in the sector on economic matters.
In order to become a financial hub, Mendoza will need a strong technological infrastructure and connectivity that can guarantee top-notch communication and logistics, as well as innovation in market access mechanisms and capital movement through fintech.
Promoting financial and sustainable education throughout the value chain is a required initiative to position Mendoza as a financial hub for mining.
To achieve this goal, Boosting Financing was created. This section of Impulsa Mendoza offers courses and information on sustainability and project financing in the mining sector. Soon, training will be available that will be useful to access local SGR guarantees, achieving more efficient financing in the supply chains.
