Mendoza’s Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre, led the first bilateral meeting of the province’s official mission with Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy. The goal was to exchange the policies both provinces are implementing to advance the mining sector and to strengthen investment strategies for critical minerals.
Mendoza continues to consolidate its position in the global market for sustainable mining. The official mission, led by Minister Latorre, began a series of bilateral meetings and strategic actions ahead of the province’s participation in Resourcing Tomorrow, part of London Mining Week, which convenes more than 2,000 international leaders to discuss the role of critical minerals in the energy transition.
First bilateral meeting with Ontario
The first working meeting took place with Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Stephen Lecce. Latorre was joined by Jerónimo Shantal, Director of Mining, and Sebastián Piña, Chief Financial Officer of Impulsa Mendoza. The authorities exchanged information on the policies each jurisdiction is applying to strengthen mining activity, including environmental controls, transparency measures and regulatory frameworks. They also discussed strategies to attract investment in critical minerals.
“We met with the Minister of Energy and Mining of the Province of Ontario, Stephen Lecce, with whom we were able to share the policies both provinces are advancing to consolidate this productive sector, such as environmental oversight, transparency and citizen participation,” Latorre said.
“We also highlighted the strategies that showcase our mining potential in critical minerals such as copper and lithium, and outlined a shared agenda to continue strengthening ties between Ontario and Mendoza,” she added.
Mining Director Jerónimo Shantal noted that the goal is “to continue working together and to meet again at the Toronto mining convention in March, where Mendoza has been invited, and where we hope to continue moving forward on these discussions.” Meanwhile, Impulsa Mendoza’s Chief Financial Officer, Sebastián Piña, emphasized that the meeting “placed strong focus on continuing to build this investment-attraction agenda from Canada toward our critical minerals. We have been working very actively—especially with the Toronto Stock Exchange—and this agenda will only deepen over the coming months.”
A strategic week of global engagement
The mission will continue with a full schedule of meetings involving government officials from various countries, regulatory agencies, exploration and development companies, investment funds specializing in critical minerals, and international experts. These sessions will support deeper technical exchange, present Mendoza’s portfolio of mining opportunities, advance new avenues for institutional cooperation and reinforce the partnerships needed to promote a modern and sustainable mining sector aligned with global energy-transition requirements.
Mendoza at the Center of the Global Mining Stage
The province will conclude its official mission with its participation in Resourcing Tomorrow 2025, held from December 2 to 4. It is the United Kingdom’s most influential mining event and the flagship gathering of London Mining Week. Mendoza will have its own stand at a convention that brings together more than 2,000 senior executives, government leaders, scientists, technology companies, investors, banks and energy-transition specialists. The event serves as a forum for global policy discussions, technological innovations, financing opportunities and connections between mining projects and international capital. It is also the place where the central strategies for securing global supplies of critical minerals are defined each year.
