Impulsa Mendoza invites all interested individuals to enroll in the online course “Introduction to Mining Activity,” a training program designed to provide a general overview of the sector’s key aspects. The course is free of charge and can be taken alongside other available training programs.
Driving Knowledge Forward, the educational initiative led by Impulsa Mendoza, is launching this new open and free course for those interested in learning about mining. Introduction to Mining Activity offers a comprehensive, technical, and up-to-date perspective on the sector.
This initiative is part of the institution’s broader strategy to strengthen human capital and democratize access to reliable technical information about an industry that plays a key role in productive development and the energy transition.
Mining is not merely an extractive activity; it forms the material foundation of modern life and is a central component in the global decarbonization process.
This new course aims to explain how the industry transforms geological potential into essential materials for technology, medicine, infrastructure, and clean energy. It complements two other courses available on the same platform: Capital Markets for Financing Mining Suppliers and Sustainability in the Mining Value Chain.
Structured Content in Five Modules
Across five modules, the course addresses four fundamental pillars that help participants understand the complexity and strategic scope of the sector:
The Strategic Role of Mining and the Energy Transition
This module examines why minerals such as copper and lithium are indispensable for manufacturing solar panels, electric vehicles, batteries, and wind turbines, and how their demand is directly linked to international emissions reduction commitments.
The Life Cycle of a Mine
Participants will learn about the seven critical stages of a mining project: from initial prospecting and exploration, economic evaluation, and environmental permitting with citizen participation, to construction, operation, closure, and environmental remediation.
Risk Management and Mining Exploration
This section explores the scientific dimension of mining, including tools such as geological mapping and geophysics. It also explains the high level of uncertainty that characterizes exploration, where statistically only one out of every million mineral indications may become a producing mine.
The Mining Ecosystem and Its Markets
The course presents the various stakeholders in the sector — junior companies, major mining firms, and local suppliers — and analyzes how international commodity markets function, including price formation mechanisms.
Comprehensive Training and Environmental Commitment
By the end of the course, participants are expected to gain a technical and integrated understanding of mining as a strategic partnership among capital, geological knowledge, technological innovation, and an essential commitment to environmental protection and community engagement.
This new offering complements the two courses already available on Impulsa Mendoza’s e-learning platform. The programs can be taken together or independently, allowing participants to tailor their learning path according to their interests and availability.
Free and Open Access
The course is entirely free. To enroll, participants must create a one-time username and password on Impulsa Mendoza’s digital platform at the following link:
With this new training initiative, Impulsa Mendoza strengthens its open education agenda, aimed at enhancing technical knowledge, promoting informed discussion, and supporting the sustainable development of the mining sector in the province.
